rain
drab shadow trees
and the rain’s steady drumming
on the shed roof
the ground
the afternoon is drowned
half awash in night
I wade through the paddock
to check the horses
bunched,
scrunched
up with their heads hanging.
better outside
I say to them
than inside with everyone
complaining about this summer
haiku
ebb tide
slices dawn light
across the shoals
chatting with friends
all afternoon
apple blossom drifts down
