Barbara Strang was brought up in Invercargill, and now lives at McCormacks Bay, Christchurch. Her poems and haiku have been published widely, and won awards, and her first book of poetry, “Duck Weather”, was launched 2006. She has an MA in Creative Writing (Vic).
Paradise Lake
Within the South Island there is a lake, Wanaka. Within is an island, Harwich. Within is another lake, Paradise. A young man runs over the small hill; he dives into the lake; breathless, he plummets to the bottom. They pull him out, press water from his lungs, drag my husband-to-be back to my future.
